Dream Baby Dream by Suicide

Released as a single back in 1979, Dream Baby Dream still sounds futuristic thanks to the songs fresh, dreamy, urgent, yet gentle feel. It's beautiful, sublime, vital music that goes straight to my heart. 

Riding in on a drum machine and keyboard/organ with a xylophone effect, the two-piece band of Martin Rev and Alan Vega conjure up something truly majestic. It never fails to captivate me, to stop me in my tracks, only for me to then press play again. 

Stretching out to 6-minutes 20 seconds, there is a lot of time and space to get lost in, to drift in, to dream in. The groove is consistent, but just seems to change slightly. It sounds like the duo hit record and captured it live, helping with the soul and timeless quality the song bursts with.

Alan Vega makes me want to go to bed early and dream. Quite an effect! At times, it sounds like the groove is having that impact on him too, like he is drifting off. Sometimes he just stops as if lost in the music, at other times he is almost mumbling as if falling asleep and dreaming.

Truly gorgeous, I hope you enjoy this song if you've never heard it before, or that you love revisiting it if you haven't listened in a while.
