Never Ending Mixtape part 110

Welcome to part 110 of my Never Ending Mixtape where the latest additions take us from 4,934 songs to 5,012 with the addition of Hit & Run Lover by Tommie Young.

Over 5,000 songs! The teenage me who spent hours and hours creating C90 mixtapes for friends and for my own pleasure would never have dreamed you could create something like this - where you just add songs whenever, in no particular order!

As always, I hope you find something wonderful that you've never heard before, or that you rediscover an old favourite song. I personally play my Never Ending Mixtape on shuffle, but play from the start, the middle, or scroll down (could take a while!) to the latest additions.

Thanks if you are one of the 383 who follow the playlist, or if you check in on it (and my blog) from time to time. And welcome if you have just discovered both.

Never Ending Mixtape part 108

Welcome to part 108 of my Never Ending Mixtape!

The mixtape is hurtling towards the 5,000 landmark. I add songs regularly, with no thought to the flow or structure, unlike the mixtapes and CD's I would make in my younger days.

As a result, my Never Ending Mixtape jumps from 4,802 to 4,852 with the addition of Brittle by my friend Alan's band Broken by Rock.

Alan originally recorded it around 10-years ago, but it was only ever available on Soundlcoud. At the time, I described it as being like a fragile New Order. I've brought the song up with Alan a number of times over the years, as I really fell for the feel of the song and recording. I am delighted that Alan has (finally) decided to release Brittle to the wider world! I love the groove, the vocal melody and the delicious synth sounds, especially in the instrumental outro that I imagine being extended for a 12-inch version.

Alan; The whole thing was recorded using synths and ableton live. I lost all the tracking when my old Mac died suddenly, so only have the master. I did think about re-recording it with the band but thought 'fuck it', just stick with the original version and not try to mess with it.

Brittle is New Wave, DIY, bedroom synth pop. I love it and hope you check it out.

Thanks if you are one of the 379 who follow the playlist, or if you check in on it (and my blog) from time to time. And welcome if you have just discovered both.

As always, I hope you find something wonderful that you've never heard before, or that you rediscover an old favourite song. I personally play my Never Ending Mixtape on shuffle, but play from the start, the middle, or scroll down (could take a while!) to the latest additions.

Never Ending Mixtape part 107

Welcome to part 107 of my Never Ending Mixtape!

The mixtape is hurtling towards the 5,000 landmark. I add songs regularly, with no thought to the flow or structure, unlike the mixtapes and CD's I would make in my younger days.

As a result, my Never Ending Mixtape jumps from 4,759 to 4,802 with the addition of Oh Yeah by my sister - Carla J Easton. It's a burst of indie guitar pop in under 2-minutes, the first taster of her forthcoming album I Think That I Might Love YouPreorder a special Monorail edition with exclusive fanzine and bookmark. They describe it as ... a record of communal heart and power, cherry-red and glowing with life

I just noted that my Never Ending Mixtape is 10-years old in October! Should I put on a night to celebrate? My blog might reach 3,000,000 views around that time which is amazing.

Thanks if you are one of the 375 who follow the playlist, or if you check in on it (and my blog) from time to time. And welcome if you have just discovered both. I play my Never Ending Mixtape on shuffle regularly.

As always, I hope you find something wonderful that you've never heard before, or that you rediscover an old favourite song.

Never Ending Mixtape part 106

Welcome to part 106 of my Never Ending Mixtape!

I started this blog/playlist/mixtape back in October 2016 with the simple intention of creating a playlist that I would add songs to on a regular basis and then blog about the latest additions every month.

There would be no thought to the structure of the playlist, unlike the mixtapes and CD's I would make in my younger days. I'd just add songs when I felt like it, depending on what I was listening to.

As a result, my Never Ending Mixtape jumps from 4,718 to 4,759 with the addition of Truck of Touble by i wanna be a truck driver - a bedroom lofi indie pop band from Glasgow. Do I detect a hint of The Pastels in there?

Never Ending Mixtape part 100

Welcome to part 100 of my Never Ending Mixtape!

So here we are, blog 100!

As a result, my Never Ending Mixtape jumps from 4,339 songs to 4,395 with the addition of Red Wine Supernova by Chappell Roan - glorious pop music!

It's an eclectic and eccentric mix that I regularly play on shuffle. But dive in from the start, midway through or scroll to the end for the latest additions.

There is a heap of soul songs, a few from Peter Doherty's career after I read his remarkably frank autobiography. With his utterly chaotic lifetstyle, he really shouldn't have been around to tell it! I've also added the new Pulp single, a few from Frank Popp Ensemble's outstanding new album and an eclectic sprinkling from the likes of Orbital w/ Tilda Swinton, The J.B's, DNA w/ Suzanne Vega, Shack, Wilco, The Magnetic Fields and Pink Floyd.

As a result, my Never Ending Mixtape now has 4,269 songs! It's an eclectic and eccentric mix that I regularly play on shuffle.

We jump from 4,217 songs to 4,269 with the additions of the original demo for The House Song by The Beta Band and then the version that ended up on their Patty Patty Sound EP. Last month I mentioned how the band were teasing their reunion. I'm delighted that I'll be going to see them at The Barrowland this September!

Check this early Tiny Desk Concert by Edward Sharp & The Magnetic Zeros. I love the Tiny Desk YouTube channel. Their performance of Home at 4-minutes 30-seconds is magical!

Never Ending Mixtape part 97

Welcome to part 97 of my Never Ending Mixtape.

Anyway, in my Never Ending Mixtape ... we jump from 4,167 songs to 4,217 with the addition of a handful of songs by The Beta Band amidst rumours that they will be reforming ... watch this space. Dogs Got A Bone from their magical Three EP's album and a some super cool stoned gems and jams from the eponymous debut.

This month I've added a number of Marianne Faithfull songs following her passing at the end of January. I have to confess to never exploring her back catalogue and I've enjoyed delving in. I may well write a future covers of the month blog on some of the many cover versions she recorded over the years.

There are also a load of Waxahatchee songs added, I can't stop listening to Kathryn Crutchfield's band and I am VERY excited to see them play the Barrowland in June.

Thank you so much if you are one of the 361 people following the playlist.

Thanks also if you dive in now and again. As always, I hope you discover an incredible song you've never heard before, or that you rediscover an old favourite you haven't heard in some time.

Never Ending Mixtape part 96

Hello and welcome to the latest additions to my Never Ending Mixtape. If you are new, this is a Spotify playlist where I simply add songs that I enjoy with no thought behind the order in which I do. The complete opposite to the way I used to spend hours making a mixtape!

Speaking of which, I recently watched High Fidelity for the first time in a long time. It's such a brilliant film with a brilliant soundtrack and VERY realistic characters. Rob Gordon (the main character) talks about the art of making a mixtape a few time through the film and the importance of them. If Rob made you a mixtape, you meant something to him and he hoped the mixtape meant something to you.

I used to love spending evenings or wet/cold afternoons pouring through records and CD's to make mixtapes for people. It's a bit of a lost art.

Anyway, in my Never Ending Mixtape ... we jump from 4,064 songs to 4,167 with the addition of Love Is Lost by David Bowie with James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem - it's a banger! There is a LOT of Bowie songs added to the mixtape due to me prepping to DJ at The Admiral Woods annual Bowie night. See previous blog for further details and a playlist of the songs I played.

Thank you so much if you are one of the 361 people following the playlist. 3 new followers since last month :-)

Thanks also if you dive in now and again. As always, I hope you discover an incredible song you've never heard before, or that you rediscover an old favourite you haven't heard in some time.

Never Ending Mixtape part 95

Hello and welcome to my Never Ending Mixtape

I started the Never Ending Mixtape a number of years ago with the simple idea that I would just keep on adding songs in no particular order and see what I could create. The complete opposite from my youth, when I would spend many wonderful hours pondering over tracklistings for mixtapes or mix CD's!

Personally, I love sticking it on shuffle and seeing what gets played. But dig in from the start, the middle, or scroll down to the end to check the very latest additions.

My Never Ending Mixtape jumps from 4,012 songs to 4,064 with the beautifully gentle and dreamy instrumental Some Strange Rain by Cotton Jones.

Thank you so much if you are one of the 358 people following the playlist. Thanks also if you dive in now and again. As always, I hope you discover an incredible song you've never heard before, or that you rediscover an old favourite you haven't heard in some time.

Never Ending Mixtape part 94

Hello and welcome

Back in October 2016 I started my Never Ending Mixtape on Spotify, a platform that I had (after a great deal of scepticism and reluctance) signed up for.

My idea was simple, I'd start a playlist and just keep on adding songs in no particular order and see what I could create. The complete opposite from my youth, when I would spend many wonderful hours pondering over tracklistings for mixtapes or mix CD's.

I aimed to blog monthly on additions to the Never Ending Mixtape and I have pretty much stuck to that. I love playing my playlist on shuffle and marvelling at the songs the algorithms select. From someone who religiously bought music (either in physical format or via iTunes), it's quite something to reflect on how Spotify is now part of my life on virtually a daily basis!

My Never Ending Mixtape has now broken the 4,000 song mark, jumping from 3,972 songs to 4,012 with the addition of denver luna from the new Underworld album.

Thank you so much if you are one of the 353 people following the playlist. Thanks also if you dive in now and again. As always, I hope you discover an incredible song you've never heard before, or that you rediscover an old favourite you haven't heard in some time.

Never Ending Mixtape part 93

Hello and welcome to part 93 of my Never Ending Mixtape.

In my teens I'd spend hours making C90 mixtapes and then through my 20's I'd deliberate over tracklisting for mix CD's to ensure I maximised the time allowed.

With this Mixtape (playlist) I simply add songs all the time! As a result, it's quite beautfully and naturally eclectic. I personally enjoy just sticking it on shuffle and seeing what comes up.

Next month should see the playlist breakthrough the 4,000 song mark! For now, we're up to 3,972!

Thank you so much if you are one of the 352 people following the playlist. Thanks also if you dive in now and again. As always, I hope you discover an incredible song you've never heard before, or that you rediscover an old favourite you haven't heard in some time.

Never Ending Mixtape part 92

Hola, Bonjour, hey, hi, hello

Welcome to the latest additions to my Never Ending Mixtape, my Spotify playlist that I add to on a regular basis and do a round up monthly blog.

The playlist has jumped from 3,896 songs to 3,934 with Attack Of The Glam Soul Cheerleaders by Ette. AKA my sister Carla J Easton. I enjoyed revisiting her Homemade Lemonade album recently. Recorded with friend Joe Kane in a garage lock up, the album has a real freshness to it.

So we are fast approaching 4,000 songs on a playlist/mixtape. To think of the hours I used to spend making C90 tapes for family and friends. With this playlist, if I'm listening to something I like, I just add it on. No thought goes into the song order.

As a result, you'll find a super eclectic playlist with all kinds of music. I like to just stick it on shuffle and see where it takes me.

As always, I hope you discover an incredible song you've never heard before, or that you rediscover an old favourite that you haven't listened to in ages.

Here are some of this months additions.

Never Ending Mixtape part 91

Hola

Welcome to part 91 of my Never Ending Mixtape which has almost reached the 4,000 songs landmark as we jump from 3,859 songs to 3,896!

There is the usual mix of recent discoveries, new releases and old favourites. How did I get to almost 4,000 songs without adding Once In A Lifetime by Talking Heads?! I must do a feature blog on that soon!

Anyway, as always, I hope you find a song you love or that you rediscover something you haven't heard in years. Play from the start, the middle, the end of click shuffle and see where it takes you.
