Never Ending Mixtape Part 14

 My Never Ending Mixtape on Spotify is now approaching 300 songs. I add to the playlist every month and then round up the latest additions in a blog.

As someone who vowed never to use Spotify or a streaming service, I have to admit I'm a convert! I still love and buy vinyl, but the ease of access that Spotify offers is unarguably incredible.

So after reading Johnny Marr's autobiography and wanting to dig into The The, all I had to do was search on Spotify and I discovered 2 absolutely sublime 12-inch remixes of Uncertain Smile and Perfect. They are sensational.

Elsewhere on the latest additions to the Never Ending Mixtape we have some real heavyweights like T-Rex, Bowie and Lou Reed, cult heroes Big Star and Gram Parson's Flying Burrito Brothers and this must be the only mixtape to have 2 Groove Armada tunes sandwiched between one by Todd Rundgren and an R.E.M demo!

You can search for Everything Flows Never Ending Mixtape on Spotify and play from the start, delve in anywhere, play on Shuffle or scroll to the end for the latest addition. Or simply CLICK HERE

Five for Friday, 3/2/12

Hola

This weeks 5 for Friday has just been inspired by hearing the sublime 808 State on Lauren Laverne's 6 Music show.

So we'll kick off with them and see where we go...

Then we go into the jazz infusioned 'Rose Rouge' by St Germain, I used to DJ occasionally in Glasgow and this always went down well.

As we're going with kind of blissed out, ambient, chilled tunes, this is a real classic from Groove Armada. A hands-in-the-air, hug-your-mates moment.

Ooh the memories of post night clubbing parties...

We'll pick up the pace and bring things forward with 2 Bears and 'Church'. Joe Goddard from Hot Chip at his best.
And how about a bit of Orbital to end - gorgeous bubbling synth sounds.

Five for Friday 18/11/11

The weekend is on the near horizon, I am in a good mood.

Here are five songs that will hopefully get you in a good mood too.

We start with the genius of Badly Drawn Boy and 'Silent Sigh'. This guy could pluck a beautiful melody from a rubber band.

We then move on to a remix of the Macca track 'Coming Up by Linus Loves, who co-founded the Glasgow label Breastfed with Mylo to release 'Destroy Rock'n'Roll'.

Talking of Mylo, that was a brilliant album. I hope he gets around to making a follow up, I have heard he has problems with his hearing. That album was everywhere when it came out, pubs, clubs, parties... the graffiti campaign around Glasgow.

We pick up the pace with the sensational remix of the Gossip's classic 'Standing In The Way Of Control' by Soulwax, taking Beth's powerful and passionate vocal and spewing it out on to something that improves on the original.

A definite TUNE with a capital T.

We end with another TUNE, one that I may well have made a T sign with my hands to back in my clubbing days. I remember it being dropped on the terrace at Space in Ibiza when I was out there in 2001. The place just went nuts.

This is Groove Armada with 'Superstylin' from their stupendous album from 2001 'Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub)'.

Enjoy.

Five for Friday 29/07/11

Real mix today but very pop!

Was this the inspiration for Blur's 'Girls and Boy's'? That thought went through my head as From The Jam blasted this out at Wickerman at the weekend. Pure pop.

Next up we have James with the stunning 'Sometimes'.

We then have Groove Armada featuring Muyta with 'Song for Muyta';

Then it is the pure pop of Kylie with 'Better The Devil You Know';

I do have a thing for redheads and I do have a thing for catchy pop like the 'L O V E' section in this.
